Men’s Soccer Travels to Florida to Face FAU, FIU
8/31/2017 1:32:00 PM | Men's Soccer
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (1-1) hits the road for the Sunshine State this weekend, where they will take on Florida Atlantic (0-1) on Friday at noon and Florida International (1-0-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cougars split their opening weekend in the Aaron Olitsky Memorial Soccer Classic, narrowly falling 3-2 to Furman before bouncing back for a 1-0 win over Monmouth. Leland Archer lifted the Cougars with a PK goal early in the second half, while Eli Dent and Matt Nozedar also got on the board for the Cougars with goals against the Paladins. In net, Kevin Shields earned a three-save shutout in the win over Monmouth.
The College and Florida Atlantic will play one another for the first time in nearly 20 years, with their last matchup coming back in 1998. In their four all-time meetings, the Cougars have never lost to the Owls. On the other hand, CofC sports a 4-1 record against FIU, with their one loss coming last season in a 3-1 defeat.
Florida Atlantic comes off a 4-10-1 season, and has played just one game so far this year, a 3-2 defeat at the hands of NC State despite a two-goal performance from Carlos Sanchis. Every goal in that game was scored over a 12-minute span in the middle of the opening half. Daniel Ragoo made seven saves for the Owls in defeat.
FIU comes off a 10-7-1 campaign that saw them receiving votes in the NSCAA coaches poll at points in the season. Thus far, the Panthers are undefeated this season, scoring a big 3-0 win on the road against Ohio State as well as a 1-1 tie against CofC's CAA-rival James Madison. Alessandro Campoy has been the team's top offensive threat with two goals already on the year, while Hugo Fauroux has made seven saves on the season in goal while only giving up one goal.
Both games will feature live video streams, giving fans the opportunity to follow the action as it happens.
