MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team bounced back with a huge win in their return home Friday night, dispatching the Presbyterian Blue Hose (2-1) by a score of 3-0.
•
Laura Ortega was all over the place on offense for the Cougars, terrorizing PC from a number of angles and scoring twice. The first came in the ninth minute, when Ortega gobbled up a loose ball from
Talia Colchico and fired it home. Much later on with the Cougars up 2-0, she struck again on a free kick at the top of the box in the 78
th minute. Ortega led all players with seven shots, five of which found their way on target.
•
Katrina Koomen bisected Ortega's goals with one of her own in the 65
th minute to give the College an insurance tally. A long feed found Koomen at the top of the box, the redshirt freshman juked her defender with a nifty move, and then tricked the keeper by going nearside.
• As a team, the Cougars dominated the Blue Hose on the stat sheet, dominating the opportunities with 24 shots to PC's three.
Genevieve Henderson made two saves on the day to earn her second shutout of the year. Alyssa Leaman made ten saves for Presbyterian in defeat.
• The game was delayed for nearly an hour due to lightning strikes in the area, and action did not begin until 7:50 p.m.
The Cougars will cross town to take on Charleston Southern this Sunday at 4 p.m.
