Men’s Soccer Kicks Off Conference Slate at Northeastern on Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (2-2) will kick off its conference season this Saturday at 5 p.m., when it travels to New England to square off with the Northeastern Huskies (1-3-1) at Parsons Field.
The Cougars will take the pitch for the first time in nearly two weeks. The team was supposed to play UAB at home earlier this week, but the game was cancelled due to Hurricane Irma. The last time CofC played, they split a weekend in Florida, defeating FAU 1-0 in overtime before succumbing 3-2 to (RV) FIU.
The College has made it a habit of spreading the offense around the field, with eight players scoring points so far this year through just four games played. Senior keeper Kevin Shields has played every minute in goal for the College this season, with two shutouts to show for his efforts.
The Cougars hold a 2-2 all-time record against the Huskies in a rivalry that began when the College joined the CAA in 2013. CofC won the meeting last year in Charleston by a score of 2-1 thanks to goals from Cesar Murillo and Nico Rittmeyer.
Northeastern is 1-3-1 on the season, but turned heads when they defeated intrastate rival and No. 12 ranked UMass-Lowell earlier this month in their home-opener. Jonathan Thuresson has held things down in net for the Huskies, boasting a 0.833 save percentage and a 0.91 GAA.
A live video stream will be made available for fans wishing to view the game.
