Men’s Soccer Stumbles in Overtime Heartbreaker
9/16/2017 7:36:00 PM | Men's Soccer
BOSTON, MASS. – Despite controlling the action for nearly the entire evening at Parsons Field, the College of Charleston men's soccer team (2-3, 0-1) fell 1-0 in overtime after the Northeastern Huskies (2-3-1, 1-0) scored just 31 seconds into the extra period.
• Though Northeastern entered overtime being outshot 14-4 up to that point, they got the first look in the sudden death scenario and capitalized. Lewis Aird sent a deep cross in to the box, where Harry Swartz made a spectacular play with a flying header to beat the out-stretched Kevin Shields.
• The Cougars had three quality chances to go up and nullify overtime entirely in the last ten minutes of regulation. Cornell Holland had a point-blank chip shot sail wide, Ben Tweedie had a clever behind-the-back poke shot drift wide, and Tucker Heffron sent one off-center with one man to beat as well.
• CofC had the distinct shot advantage with three players recording multiple shots, but actually lost the shots-on-goal battle 3-2. Shields made a high degree-of-difficulty save from close range midway through the first half to keep the game locked at 0-0.
The College will remain on the road for a non-conference showdown against Coastal Carolina this Wednesday.
