MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's soccer team (5-3) wrapped up their 25
th Anniversary Alumni Weekend in dominant fashion on Sunday, blowing past the Jacksonville Dolphins (2-5) by a score of 4-0.
•
Laura Ortega had perhaps the best game of her impressive career, scoring a goal and tallying a whopping three assists to involve herself in every goal scored on the day. Her goal came in the 27
th minute when
Hannah Huizenga sent in a feed from the corner of the box. Ortega cleaned it up with a poke shot to put CofC up 2-0 at the time.
• The Cougars got on the board very early, and it was almost an identical scenario to Friday night's start. A
Laura Ortega set piece from the corner of the box found a waiting
Rachel Kim, who found pay dirt in the fourth minute to give the College the early lead that they'd never relinquish.
• After going into half up 2-0 and leading the shot battle 13-1, the Cougars didn't let their foot off the gas, getting two quick goals in the 65
th and 73
rd minute on strikes from
Ali Freitas and
Katrina Koomen. CofC finished the game with 22 shots, 12 shots on goal and 12 corner kick opportunities.
•
Genevieve Henderson earned her fourth consecutive shutout, extending her shutout streak to 397 minutes before being relieved late in the game. It was a relatively light workload for the senior keeper, who was only called upon to make two saves.
The Cougars will now look ahead to next Sunday, when they will begin their conference slate on the road against Northeastern.
