McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) tallied a season-best 27 digs, and head coach
Jason Kepner picked up his 250
th career win as the College of Charleston volleyball team defeated UNC Wilmington, 3-1, in Colonial Athletic Association play on Wednesday evening.
College of Charleston (13-4, 2-1 CAA) won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, and 25-18. The Cougars posted 65 kills, 78 digs, eight blocks, and a .244 hitting percentage in the match, while holding UNC Wilmington (6-9, 0-3 CAA) to 45 kills, 60 digs, and a .163 clip on the attack.
Madison paced the Cougars with a match-high 18 kills on 22 attempts, and finished the night with an other-worldly .727 hitting percentage.
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) turned in a double-double with 16 kills and 15 digs, as
Krissy Mummey (Hudson, Ohio) and
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) added 14 and 11 smashes, respectively.
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) recorded a double-double of her own with 49 assists and 12 digs to go along with three service aces, while Rhodes tallied a season-high 27 digs. Senior
Jane Feddersen (Leesburg, Va.) was involved in five of the Cougars' eight blocks.
Maddy Kline led the way for UNCW with 12 kills, with Halle Hunt and Anna Moss adding 11 and 10 smashes, respectively. Brynn Montgomery dished out 32 assists and tallied four blocks, while Katie McCullough totaled 19 digs. Sydney Brock and Moss recorded five and four blocks, respectively.
The Cougars will wrap up their four-match road swing to begin CAA play on Sunday, October 1 against undefeated James Madison (11-0, 2-0 CAA) in Harrisonburg, Va. First serve is slated for 1:00 pm.
