CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (2-5-1; 0-1-1) will travel northward this Saturday, where they will look to challenge the (RV) Elon Phoenix (3-1-5; 0-1-2) for a 7 p.m. showdown.
The Cougars come off a non-conference home defeat at the hands of Georgia State last Tuesday. The College crushed the shots battle with a 18-7 advantage, but a Javen Palmer goal in the 56th minute lifted the Panthers to their sixth win of the season.
The Cougars and Phoenix have played one another 18 times in CofC's Division I Era, with the Cougars controlling the 11-6-1 advantage. However, Elon has gotten the better of the Cougars in their last three meetings, tallying two overtime wins and a 1-1 draw last season when the Phoenix were once again receiving votes in the national poll.
Prior to their last game, a 2-1 loss on the road to No. 15 UNCW, the Phoenix had clocked four consecutive ties against (RV) Charlotte, Hofstra, (RV) NC State and James Madison. Elon has implemented a balanced attack this year, and has three players on the roster with two goals and two assists. Matthew Jegier has played every minute in goal, and has a 0.40 GAA thus far.
