9/30/2017 11:08:00 PM | Men's Soccer
ELON, N.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team (2-5-2, 0-1-2) played to its second clean sheet of the season, and through 110 minutes of action, finished in a 0-0 draw with the (RV) Elon Phoenix (3-1-6, 0-1-3).
• The Cougars got the first shot of the game off the foot of Current Page, but Elon responded with the next six shots. Kevin Shields was called upon to make four saves in the first half and seven for the duration of the game. All four of the starting defenders in front of Shields logged over 100 minutes of play, helping the senior keeper pick up his fourth shutout of the season.
• Elon finished the game with 17 shots to the Cougars' eight. Both teams had ample corner kick chances (10-9 CofC), but the Cougars were the more aggressive squad on defense with 27 fouls on the night to Elon's 15.
• It was the sixth tie on the season for the Phoenix, which ties them with CAA-rival Hofstra for the national lead in that category. For the Cougars, they extended their scoreless drought to just beyond 300 minutes.
The Cougars will return to action on Wednesday, when they remain on the road to face North Florida.
