Four Cougars Submit Top 25 Performances at Louisville XC Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston cross country program had a busy morning on Saturday, competing in four different races between Louisville and the Lowcountry.
The majority of the team headed for the Bluegrass State to compete in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic. The remainder of the team stayed at home to compete in The Citadel's Will Wilson Invitational.
The women competed against several of the premier teams in the nation at Louisville, finishing 27th out of 37 Division I schools in the Gold Race. Tess Masselink paced the Cougars for the third consecutive time to finish 89th. Her time of 17:49.29 was the 8th-fastest 5K time in CofC history, and inched her up to No. 4 on the list of the school's fastest 5K runners.
Fellow freshman Cate Ambrose made her mark on history as well, submitting the 20th-fastest 5K time and moving from No. 10 to No. 8 among 5K runners with her 119th place time of 18:05.20. Tori Churchill (150th, 18:18.48) and Ellen Feringa (207th, 18:44.76) were next across, with the scoring rounded out by Marissa Small-Towns, who finished with a time of 19:09.49. Boise State was the outright winner of the women's race with a team score of 78 points.
The men in Louisville took home fifth place among 11 Division I programs competing in the Blue Race. Hayden DiBona had a huge outing with a 3rd place podium finish. His time of 25:14.75 was the 4th-fastest 8K time in school history, and propelled him up to No. 3 among CofC 8K runners.
Freshman Declan Hines was next across in sixth with a time of 25:39.44, and he too jumped up in CofC history, becoming the 9th-fastest 8K runner with the 15th-best 8K time. Crew Kosiorek (26:41.44), Evan Peirce (27:08.91) and Jack Beattie (27:34.45) capped off the scoring for the Cougars. CofC finished just one point ahead of Western Kentucky to edge the Hilltoppers out for fifth place.
The squad in the Lowcountry rounded things out, with Eileen Vedder taking sixth in her collegiate debut with a time of 20:36.4, and Will McCann (15th, 28:57.7) and William Barnett (30:06.6) representing the maroon and white as well.
The Cougars will return to action in two weeks, when they head to East Carolina for the Pirate Invitational
