Women's Tennis Falls to Demon Deacons

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's tennis team (1-1) couldn't withstand a Wake Forest team with multiple ranked individuals on Saturday, as the Cougars fell to the Demon Deacons 7-0.
The Cougars fell in top-flight doubles action 6-0 to the No. 42 ranked pairing of Eliza Omirou and Anna Ulyashchenko, and Wake Forest would go on to capture the point in short order with a 6-1 win on court two.
Helena Nyikos and Christi Woodson fell in the top singles flights to No. 70 Omirou and No. 72 Emma Davis respectively, which helped propel Wake Forest to victory.
However, the Cougars played the Demon Deacons tightly in the middle flights. Rachel McNeely was able to force Ulyashchenko into a second set tiebreak before falling 6-2, 7-6(0), while Anastasia Palaska put together a heroic effort in the fourth flight before succumbing to Chandler Carter 7-6(7), 6-3.
The Cougars will have the remainder of the month off before resuming competition in early February, when they will return to the road to face Bethune-Cookman on the third.
