Rhodes' Record Performance Propels Cougars to Sweep of Towson

TOWSON, Md. --- Senior McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) set a new three-set, single-match record with 26 digs, and Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) paced three Cougars with double digits in kills as the No. 20 (VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll) College of Charleston volleyball team swept Towson in Colonial Athletic Association play on Sunday afternoon.

With the victory, College of Charleston (14-8, 5-3 CAA) snaps a three-match skid and jumps into third in the CAA standings. The Cougars won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-23, while hitting .336 and totaling 49 kills, 60 digs, and five blocks. Charleston held Towson (9-12, 4-4 CAA) to 43 kills, 55 digs, six blocks, and a .209 hitting percentage.

Rhodes delivered perhaps her best performance of the season with a match-high 26 digs, which ranks as the most by a Cougar in a three-set match during the rally-scoring era. Rachel turned in her team-leading 10th double-double of the season with 17 kills and 10 digs to go along with a .410 hitting percentage. Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) accounted for 11 and 10 kills, respectively, as both narrowly missed a double-double with eight digs each.

Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dished out a match-high 46 assists, which ranks as the second-most in a three-set match during the rally-scoring era. Peyton Eisnaugle (Dallas, Texas) put down seven kills and hit a blistering .462 to add a crucial fourth offensive option for the Cougars.

Silvia Grassini led the way for Towson with 11 kills on 17 swings (.647) in addition to a match-high four blocks. Jocelyn Kulian turned in 10 kills and eight digs, as Anna Holehouse added a team-best 17 digs. Marrisa Wonders and Peyton Moyles dished out 23 and 17 assists, respectively.

The Cougars return to the court next Sunday, October 21 when they host UNCW in CAA action. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm in TD Arena.
