CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Senior
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) set a new four-set single-match record with a career-high 35 digs, and three Cougars recorded a double-double as the College of Charleston volleyball team fell to James Madison, 3-1, in Colonial Athletic Association play on Thursday evening.
James Madison (18-4, 10-1 CAA) rallied from a first-set loss to win the match by scores of 20-25, 29-27, 25-22, and 25-21. College of Charleston (15-9, 6-4 CAA) finished the night with 58 kills, 81 digs, seven blocks, and a .158 hitting percentage. The Dukes totaled 58 kills, 80 digs, 15 blocks, and eight service aces while hitting .180 as a team.
Rhodes turned in her third consecutive match with 25 or more digs, and set a new four-set, single-match record (25-point rally scoring era) with a career- and match-high 35 digs.
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) posted her 11
th double-double of the season with 19 kills and 18 digs, while
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) chipped in her ninth double-double of the campaign with 12 kills and 18 digs.
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) added a double-double of her own with 15 digs and a contest-best 48 assists.
Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) put down 10 kills without an error on 19 swings to finish the night with a .526 hitting percentage. She also collected a team-high four blocks, as
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) chipped in 10 kills and four blocks of her own.
M'Kaela White led the way for James Madison with 15 kills, six blocks, and a .306 hitting percentage. Kelly Vahos and Bryn Recker added 13 and 12 kills, respectively, as Recker collected 14 digs to account for a double-double. Sarah Martin dished out 47 assists and tied Taylor Gail for the team-lead with eight blocks, while Sarah Driscoll paced the defense with 27 digs.
The Cougars return to the court on Saturday, October 27 when they host CAA foe Towson. First serve is scheduled for 1:00 pm in TD Arena.
