Charleston Fall to Hofstra in New York

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The College of Charleston fell on the road to Hofstra 2-0 in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup that all but mathematically eliminates The College from postseason play for the 2018 season, pending the results of other games around the conference.

The Pride, third in the CAA entering this weekend's play, scored twice in the first half to pull away from the Cougars while seeing the rest of the game out to collect the three points.

The College matched the Pride through the opening exchanges, Tucker Heffron and Cole Gulledge have efforts on target inside five minutes while Joao Mauricio de Souza fired one over the bar from distance.

In the space of eight minutes Hofstra scored twice. The first a finish from inside the penalty area with the second a turn and finish also inside the box.

Heffron and Peter Dearle had efforts for Charleston in the opening exchanges of the second half with neither able to find the target. On his return from injury Jake Nicholson had an effort that tested the Pride goalkeeper as the game entered the final minutes, but Hofstra saw the game out to get the three points.

Charleston now look to the last CAA game of the season on Tuesday night at William & Mary, a rearranged fixture from earlier in the year, with the chances of a CAA playoff spot in the fate of other Saturday night results around the conference.
