Seniors Lead Charge in Cougars' 3-1 Win Over Blue Hens

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Seniors Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.), Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.), Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.), and McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) each turned in impressive individual performances to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association win over Delaware in their final match in TD Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Prior to first serve, the Cougars honored a senior class that will end their careers with their names featured heavily in the program's record book among the College's all-time greats. Head coach Jason Kepner, athletic director Matt Roberts, and the Cougars' underclassmen were pleased to present each senior with several gifts in recognition of their tremendous contributions to the program – both on and off the court – over the last four seasons during the Cougars' annual senior day ceremony.

College of Charleston (17-9, 8-4 CAA) won the match by scores of 25-16, 24-26, 25-19, and 25-23 to remain in third in the CAA standings – one match behind second-place Hofstra and two matches shy of CAA-leader James Madison. The Cougars held Delaware to 60 kills, 66 digs, four blocks, and a .239 hitting percentage on the day.

Charleston flexed its offensive muscles in a big way, finishing the match with 71 kills and a .373 hitting percentage in addition to 75 digs, six blocks, and four service aces. The Cougars' kills total is tied for the second-most in a four-set match during the program's 25-point rally scoring era, and one shy of the record of 72 set against Samford on November 18, 2012.

Rachel paced the offense with 21 kills and a .339 (21-2-56) hitting percentage, and finished one dig shy of a double-double with nine. Madison added 19 kills on only 33 swings to go along with three blocks a blistering .515 (19-2-33) attacking clip.

Beckman turned in another phenomenal performance with a four-set career-high 59 assists to move into sixth all-time in the CAA, and also become only the second player in program history to record at least 1,000 assists in four consecutive seasons. The senior setter also tallied two kills, two service aces, and five digs. Rhodes continued her torrid stretch with a match-high 23 digs to lead the defense with her fourth 20-dig performance in the last five matches.

Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) posted one of her best matches of the season with her 10th double-double of the campaign. The junior outside hitter finished with 16 kills, 15 digs, two assists, one block, and a .389 (16-2-36) hitting percentage. Junior middle blocker Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) chipped in eight kills, three blocks, and a .312 attacking clip (8-3-16), while Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) collected 15 digs.

Maria Bellinger led the way for Delaware with a match-high 26 kills and a .322 (26-7-59) hitting percentage. Courtnie Roberts dished out 50 assists and added seven digs, as Brooke Robertson and Bailey Pearlman put down 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Cailey Bracken finished one kill shy of a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs; Andie Hanus paced the defense with 20 digs.

The Cougars will play their final four matches of the regular season away from TD Arena, beginning with a trip to Hempstead, N.Y. to take on Hofstra (19-7, 9-3 CAA) on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 pm.
