BOSTON, Mass. --- Senior
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) reached double digits in kills for the 11
th consecutive match,
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) dished out 43 assists, and four Cougars posted double-figure digs to lead the College of Charleston volleyball team to a straight-set sweep at Northeastern in Colonial Athletic Association play on Saturday evening.
The victory lifts College of Charleston (18-10, 9-5 CAA) into sole possession of third-place in the CAA standings, and marks the Cougars' first-ever sweep at Northeastern. Charleston won the match by scores of 27-25, 25-15, and 25-20 while combining for 52 kills, 60 digs, six blocks, and a .291 hitting percentage. Northeastern finished the match with 38 kills, 57 digs, three blocks, and a .146 attacking clip.
Madison led all hitters with 17 kills and a .433 hitting percentage (17-4-30).
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) each recorded nine kills and 11 digs to both narrowly miss a double-double, while
Peyton Eisnaugle (Dallas, Texas) posted nine kills, three blocks, and a .467 hitting percentage (9-2-15).
Beckman continued her historic march through the CAA record book, dishing out a contest-best 43 assists to move into fourth on the league's all-time list with her eighth straight 40-assist performance. The senior setter also added four digs, two kills, and two blocks.
Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) and
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) paced the defense with 15 and 14 digs, respectively, as
Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) chipped in six kills on 14 swings to go along with two blocks.
Gabrielle Tschannen finished with 10 kills and a .409 hitting percentage (10-1-22) to lead the way for Northeastern, as Taylor Reiter and Hannah Boyd each put down eight kills. Samantha Shupe distributed 32 assists and added seven digs, while Gabrielle Eyl tallied a match-high 23 digs.
The Cougars will travel to Williamsburg, Va. next Friday, November 9 to take on William & Mary (5-17, 1-12 CAA) to open the final weekend of the regular season.
