MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team fell 5-2 versus South Carolina State, dropping their record to an even 2-2.

In doubles, senior Juan Estevarena and junior Benedikt Henning defeated Jakub Vitek and Juan Ramirez, 6-2, at the No. 1 line. The doubles competition came down to the third slot where the Cougar sophomore duo of Easton Thomas and Alec Angradi were up 5-4 but ended up falling 7-5 to Marcelo Rodriguez and Edgar Diaz.

Senior Ryan Khan scored the first singles point for CofC when he defeated Cyprian Owczarz, 6-1, 6-1 on court three. Even though the match had already been decided, Henning came back to defeat Ramirez in second position with everybody watching. Henning won the first set 6-2, dropped the second one 5-7 but rallied to win the third 7-5.

"Today was a tough early lesson for this team," CofC Head Coach Jay Bruner said. "We worked hard enough to get the opportunities we wanted and could not finish some key points. SC State was a strong team and we knew it would be a good test going into the match. We are going to have to earn matches like this is practice, so it will be good to get back on court quickly to begin that work."

The Cougars will be back in action Sunday, February 18th at 1 p.m. versus North Carolina A&T at Patriots Point.
