Box Score MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team rushed out to an early advantage in doubles play at Patriots Point on Wednesday, but St. John's rebounded in singles to hand the Cougars the 5-2 defeat.
 
The Cougars dropped their first doubles encounter on court two, but Juan Estevarena and Bendikt Henning were able to even the tally at 1-1 with a 6-3 win. That brought the fate of the point to court three, where Ksawery Pociej and Fernando Ramirez Lascurian faced off against Alan Nunez Aguilera and Daniel Skripnik. CofC pushed to a 5-2 advantage, but the Red Storm pushed back to tie things at 5-5. From there, the Cougars fought to make it 6-5, and finally, Pociej was able to secure the match on a laser of an ace to the outside back corner.
 
St. John's responded with ferocity, taking three matches in two sets on courts three, five and six. Benedikt Henning helped to stop the bleeding, winning 6-3, 6-2 on court two, but the Cougars still trailed it 3-2.
 
In the end, Juan Estevarena and Alec Angradi were able to force their matches to three sets after giving up first sets to their opponents, but both Cougars succumbed late as St. John's took the match.
 
CofC returns to action on Friday when they travel to south Florida to take on the Miami Hurricanes.
