Men's Tennis Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against Camels
3/7/2018 9:05:00 PM | Men's Tennis
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (5-6) couldn't quite pull off the comeback on Wednesday at Patriots Point, falling to the Campbell Camels (8-4) 5-2.
Campbell was the first on the board with a flight one 6-2 win, but Fernando Ramirez Lascurian and Ksawery Pociej responded with a third flight 6-4 victory to knot the match up. In the deciding second flight encounter, Alec Angradi and Youssef Dabbabi fought valiantly, but lost the match and the point in a 7-5 defeat.
The Cougars bounced back with a Benedikt Henning victory on court two, with the German easily dispatching Lorenz Schwab 6-2, 6-1. Campbell regained the lead however with a pair of two-set wins on courts three and five to put CofC on the brink.
Alec Angradi helped stop the bleeding on court six, coming back from a 6-2 loss in his first set to rally for a 6-1, 6-1 finish against Fernando Clemente.
That left Juan Estevarena and Easton Thomas to battle for the point, and both forced the Camels into extra sets and tiebreaks. Thomas succumbed 6-1, 3-6, 7-6, while Estevarena fell 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
The Cougars will remain at home with nine days until their next encounter, when they host the Appalachian State Mountaineers on March 16 at 10 a.m.
