MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team (9-4) couldn't carry the momentum of a strong doubles performance to the finish line on Wednesday, falling to the Campbell Camels (5-5) by a score of 5-2.
 
Campbell got out to an early lead in doubles play with a win on court two, but Laura Arciniegas and Turner Yates responded with a 6-4 win in third flight play to even things at 1-1. That left the point to be decided on court one, where Anastasia Palaska and Christi Woodson managed to grind out another 6-4 decision over Alexandra Andrivot and Isabel Boada to put CofC up 1-0 in the match.
 
Campbell struck first in doubles play on court two, but Palaska regained the Cougar advantage with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court five over Pauline Roustan to keep CofC up 2-1. However, Campbell was able to turn the tide with a win on court three, and then Helena Nyikos surrendered a hard fought decision to Ana Cartillo in flight one (7-6, 7-5) to put the Camels on the brink of victory.
 
CofC didn't go down without a fight, as all both remaining matches required three sets to find a winner. Nonetheless, Campbell seized the day with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Catalina Medici on court four and a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Yates on court six.
 
Palaska, who was the player of the match for the Cougars, rose to 7-3 on the year in singles play and 8-2 on the season in doubles. The Cougars finish off their home-stand on Friday when they host the Winthrop Eagles.
