Mount Pleasant, S.C. – Izzy Berouty tossed a four-hitter for her ninth complete game of the season, and Sara Garcia highlighted the decisive third inning with a two-run homer to lead the College of Charleston to a 4-1 win over Georgia Southern at Patriots Point.

The Cougars (23-18) scored all their runs in the third, including two on a seemingly innocent bunt by Taylor DuPree. After a double by Alondra Vicary, Eagle third baseman Hannah Farrell fielded a DuPree bunt and threw wildly at first. The ball rolled all the way to the fence in right as both runners scored.

One out later, Jordin Jones singled and Garcia lined a shot over the fence in left for her third home run of the year to double the Charleston lead. Garcia finished with two hits and also swiped a base.

Berouty allowed more than one runner on base only once through the first six innings before Georgia Southern mounted a threat in the seventh. The Eagles broke the shutout bid with a sacrifice fly by Mekhia Freeman and reloaded the bases with two outs before Berouty got Logan Harrell to fly out to center.

Berouty struck out four in improving her record to 13-8. Rylee Waldrep also threw a complete game for Georgia Southern, allowing six hits and no earned runs.

The Cougars remain home this weekend for a Colonial Athletic Association series against James Madison. The teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday at 2 and a single game on Sunday at noon.
