LAKEPOINT, Ga. --- The seventh-seeded College of Charleston beach volleyball team split duals with No. 3 seed Florida International and No. 10 seed UAB in pool play at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Beach Volleyball Championship on Friday to enter Saturday's second day in third place in Pool B.
 
College of Charleston (16-9) opened the day with a tough 5-0 setback to third-seeded Florida International (21-8), a dual in which the Cougars forced a pair of matches to three sets. The Cougars then bounced back with a 3-2 win over UAB (8-13), which included victories at two's, four's, and five's.
 
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) and Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) put the Cougars on the board with a 21-19, 21-17 victory at two's, before Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) and Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) posted a 21-16, 25-23 win at five's to even the dual at 2-2 following setbacks at one's and three's.
 
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) and Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) delivered the deciding point for the Cougars at four's.  After taking set one, 21-16, and dropping set two, 11-21, the duo won the third set by a score of 15-7 to secure the 3-2 victory for the College.
 
The Cougars enter Saturday's second and final day of pool play with a 1-1 record in Pool B, which ranks third behind South Carolina and Florida International – both of which are unbeaten at 2-0. Charleston will take on No. 2 South Carolina at 9:00 am, and No. 6 Tulane at 1:30 pm.
