GREENVILLE, N.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team (7-10) got off to a promising start on Sunday at East Carolina, but the Pirates (19-4) surged back in singles competition to hand the Cougars the 4-1 defeat.
Juan Estevarena and
Benedikt Henning continued their hot streak in doubles, defeating Freddie McGeehan and Vlad Anghel 6-1 in flight one play.
Ksawery Pociej and
Easton Thomas secured the point when they emerged victorious in flight two by virtue of the 6-4 win.
The Pirates claimed revenge against the two, as Pociej fell 6-0, 6-4 in flight three and Thomas dropped 6-0, 6-3 in flight six to put ECU up 2-1. Both
Ryan Kahn and
Youssef Dabbabi put up valiant efforts on courts four and five, but the two fell 7-5, 6-3 and 6-4, 7-5 respectively to give the Pirates the match. Henning and Estevarena were each forced to walk away from their singles encounters with the matches still unfinished.
