CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team fell to UNCW, 4-1, at Patriots Point on Wednesday evening in round two of Colonial Athletic Association play.
The College dominated play for large periods during the first half with
Ben Tweedie whipping a cross from the right channel for
Victor Oladipo, but his header was saved. An unforced error on the next attack allowed the Seahawks, ranked No. 14 in the latest U.S. Soccer Coaches Poll, to open the scoring through Phillip Goodrum with a finish from 12-yards. Goodrum doubled the UNCW lead in the 38th minute with a turn and effort into the top right corner.
Rio Murray pulled Charleston back into the game just before half-time with his second goal of the season.
Marcelo Malpartida flicked on a long ball from
Treston Kederer, with Murray gambling on the last defender and slotting into the bottom left to cut the scoreline to 2-1.
Steven Cahill very nearly leveled the game minutes into the second half. The Seahawks failing to deal with a high ball in the box and Cahill half-volleying from edge of the box, but his rising effort flew a couple of yards over the bar.
Moments later the Seahawks restored their two goal lead, Emil Elveroth finishing under Kederer from five yards.
Tucker Heffron nearly pulled a goal back in the 58th minute but his effort flew narrowly round the right hand post. Kederer making a huge save at the other end by tipping the ball onto the post after Elveroth had burst through one-on-one.
In the 72nd minute the Seahawks wrapped the game up with a fortuitous goal that deflected off the back of Cesar Cruz and into the goal to make the final scoreline 4-1.
