CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's soccer team travel to Wilmington, N.C., to face UNC Asheville and Fairfield in the UNCW Springhill Suites Classic held Sept. 7-9.
The Cougars will face the Bulldogs on Friday evening (5 p.m. kickoff) in the opening game of the tournament before also opening the final day with a match against the Stags on Sunday at noon.
Scouting UNC Asheville
The Bulldogs sit at 1-3-0 on the season, the lone winning coming against Wofford (who Charleston fell to 1-0 in a preseason matchup). Another line of form Charleston look to is the Bulldogs 2-0 loss to USC Upstate, who the Cougars defeated 4-1 in the preseason schedule. UNC Asheville received one first-place vote in the preseason Big South poll after returning seven starters and 16 letterwinners from the 2017 squad.

This will be the fourth meeting between the programs with Charleston winning all three previous games.
Last Meeting with the Bulldogs
Charleston defeated UNC Asheville back in Sept. 2011 through an overtime winner in the 104th minute. Volunteer assistant coach Ralph Lundy III started the game in midfield, having one shot on goal in 31 minutes played.
Scouting Fairfield
The Bulldogs bring a 1-2-0 record to the UNCW Springhill Suites Classic, getting their first win of the season on Monday evening on the road at Yale. The Stags opened the season at #19 New Hampshire, falling 1-0 in overtime, before again falling on the road in overtime to St. Johns. Fairfield, picked to finish third in the MAC preseason poll, will face #9 ranked UNCW on Friday evening in their first game of this weekend's tournament.

On the stroke of halftime Tucker Heffron opened the scoring through a Jake Nicholson corner, but Navy hit back around 20 minutes into the second half. Both teams had opportunities to win the game, Treston Kederer denying the Midshipmen from 10 yards, but neither could find the back of the net before the end of double overtime.
