The Short Story: After the Cougars took an early lead, Elon scored two unanswered goals to earn the win.
QUICK FACTS
• Seniors Alyssa Beck and Talia Colchico took a team-high two shots.
• Elon held the edge in the shots category, 9-8, while shots on goal was even at 4-4.
• Overall, seven different Cougars took a shot at goal.
• Sophomore Hannah Farmer scored the lone Cougars' goal and freshman Olivia Freitas registered an assist.
• Junior keeper Meredith Holton logged two saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• CofC took an early lead 44 seconds into the match when Farmer received a Freitas' pass and beat the keeper to the bottom left corner of the net.
• Elon evened the score at 1-1 just before halftime.
• The Cougars took three consecutive shots early in the second half, but each shot was saved or blocked.
• The Phoenix scored the game-winner in the 84th minute to make it 2-1 from a converted free kick just outside of the 18-yard box.
• Junior Leah Deutsch nearly evened the score to 2-2 in the 90th minute but her shot landed just outside of the post.
WHAT'S NEXT
The College will return to action as they take on Northeastern in Boston, Mass. on Sunday, Oct. 20 with kick-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
