Napierala, Russell Power Cougars to Sweep of Tribe

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Mandy Napierala and Molly Russell combined for 21 kills and Tori Carpenter posted her first collegiate double-double to lead College of Charleston to a straight-set sweep of William & Mary on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cougars combined for 44 kills and took advantage of several timely William & Mary miscues to pick up their first conference win of the season. Charleston compiled a .225 hitting percentage in the contest while holding the Tribe to 36 kills and a .193 attacking clip. Napierala led the way with a match-high 12 kills as Russell came off the bench with nine kills over the final two sets.
 
COUGAR OF THE MATCH
Russell provided a key boost off the bench in sets two and three hitting .643 with a career-high nine kills on 14 swings. The sophomore middle blocker accounted for six of her nine kills in the final frame.
 
NOTABLES
  • Carpenter turned in another superb performance with 35 assists, 10 digs, two kills and two blocks in her first collegiate double-double.
  • Junior libero Logan Manusky continued her strong play with a match-high 17 digs including nine in set three.
  • Napierala put down a match-high 12 kills to go along with seven digs and two service aces.
  • The Cougars registered 17 of their 44 kills in the final frame after hitting .351 in the second set with 15 kills.
  • Senior Peyton Eisnaugle finished the match with seven kills, two blocks and hit an even .500.
  • Lauren Freed contributed 10 kills, seven digs, one ace and a solo block.
  • Freed continues to close in a pair of milestones needing 42 kills and 24 digs to reach the coveted 1,000-mark in each category for her career.
  • Head coach Jason Kepner is now eight wins shy of reaching the 300-mark in his 13th season at the helm.
 
NEXT UP
The Cougars travel to the Northeast next weekend to take on Hofstra and Northeastern in CAA action. Charleston will face the Hofstra Pride on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Hempstead, N.Y., and Northeastern on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
