CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston women's tennis team face Appalachian State on Sunday morning, first serve being moved up to 11 a.m. at the CofC Tennis Center with the threat of inclement weather in the afternoon.
The Cougars are looking to bounce back from a narrow 4-3 loss to in-city rivals Charleston Southern on Monday, while the Mountaineers are also looking to get back to winning ways after seeing a three-match win streak come to an end with a 7-0 loss to North Carolina on Feb. 19.
Scouting Appalachian State
The Mountaineers began the year with a 4-3 loss to Davidson back on Jan. 19 bfore knocking off three straight opponents including Western Carolina, ETSU and UNC-Greenville through February. A 7-0 loss at North Carolina on Feb. 19 is the latest match for Appalachian State who are coming to Charleston on the back of a cancelled Friday afternoon match at UNC-Asheville. Led by former CofC tennis student-athlete Blake Mosley, who played at The College from 1991-95 in the No. 3 singles and 1-2 doubles, the Mountaineers trail 2-20 all-time against Charleston after picking up their first win in 19 attempts last season with a 7-0 victory.

Woodson picked up the weekly award after going 2-0 in flight one action against CAA rivals UNCW and in-city rivals Charleston Southern. Woodson's only losses in flight one this season have come against 2018 NCAA Tournament teams.
Yates is 5-1 in singles play, 4-1 in flight five and 1-0 in flight four, a lone loss coming on the road at Clemson. Yates has picked up her last three singles wins in straight sets fashion, giving up just four total matches through six sets.
Starting Off The Home Stand Right
Charleston are currently 2-1 at Patriots Point this season after defeating UNCW on Feb. 22 and Georgia Southern on Feb. 10 – a lone loss coming against Charleston Southern 4-3.
Against CAA rivals UNCW, Charleston dominated in doubles play with Christi Woodson and Anastasia Palaska winning on court one and Sarah Zschunke and Turner Yates winning on court three.
Woodson, Palaska and Yates took singles victories on courts one, two and four with Ava Turner and Catalina Medici winning on five and six for the dominating 6-1 victory.
Against Georgia Southern Clara Errard picked up her first collegiate victory to give CofC the come-from-behind 4-3 victory. The freshman from Toulouse, France, battled back with a third set victory to give Charleston the home opening victory.
The Season Opening Weekend
Charleston picked up a season opening win over USC Upstate on Jan. 18, with senior duo Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke winning on court three to claim the doubles point. Christi Woodson, Lily Labiche and Yates all winning in straight sets on courts one, two and five to give The College a 4-3 win.
Yates strong singles action continued against Wake Forest and Clemson, the senior earning the CAA Singles Player of the Week nod after pushing No. 98 ranked Deacon Peyton Pesavento to a narrow third set loss (6-3, 2-6, 4-6), before leveling up against the Tigers Miller-Krasilnikov, 3-6, 6-1, before the match was called early.

Charleston looks to the leadership of four seniors and one junior in head coach Angelo Anastapoulo's 28th season in charge. Laura Arciniegas, 2018 All-CAA Singles Second Team selection Christi Woodson, Turner Yates and Sarah Zschunke return alongside Anastasia Palaska, Ava Turner and Catalina Medici from a 2018 squad that finished 17-11 in the CAA Semifinal round. Newcomers include sophomore Eva Nyikos, a transfer from North Florida and sister to last season's senior Helena Nyikos, alongside Clara Errard and Lily LaBiche.
