CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's tennis team continue an eight-match home-stand with two matches in two days this weekend. The Cougars play host to North Carolina A&T State on Friday at 3 p.m. before facing UNC-Asheville on Saturday morning with the Bulldogs bringing the nation's No. 1 doubles pair to Patriots Point for a 10 a.m. first serve.
Scouting North Carolina A&T State
The Aggies are 1-9 on the season, picking up a lone victory at King University on Feb. 24, in a 4-3 win. N.C. A&T State have dropped matches to Appalachian State, Elon, Georgia Souther, Winthrop and most recently Coastal Carolina, Charleston facing the Phoenix in a CAA matchup later in the season. In Fall 2018 the Cougars faced the Aggies in a tournament, Charleston defeating N.C. A&T State in three doubles and five singles matches, all in straight sets.
Scouting UNC Asheville
The Bulldogs are 10-0 on the spring season after knocking off Wofford last Saturday, 6-1, on the road. ECU are the only team to push the Bulldogs all the way, UNC-Ashville winning 4-3 in Greenville, N.C. For the third concecutive week, Oli Nolan and Henry Patten are ranked as the No. 1 doubles team in the country by the Oracle/ITA Doubles rankings, both the highest rankings in Big South tennis history and the highest ranking in Bulldogs history. Patten is also 6-0 in number one singles, Nolan 4-2 in the number two slot.

Doubles duo, senior Benedikt Henning and freshman Johnny Wang, are ranked no. 54 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the latest ITA/Oracle release on March 6. The pair have opened the season with a 5-2 record, defeating No. 19 ranked Virginia Tech duo of Henrik Korsgaard and Alexandre Ribeiro, 7-6 (5-0), and Wofford's Bryce Keim and Omar Williams 6-4. The pair have teamed up three other times, two flight one matches unfinished when leading 4-3 against Bethune-Cookman and also when leading 3-2 at Florida A&M. The duo picking up three straight wins against Methodist, Washington College and Coppin State on March 2-3.
The Cougars
Charleston returns four letter-winners from a 2018 squad who finished 7-12 in the CAA Quarterfinal round. This year the Cougars are led by three-time All-CAA selection Benedikt Henning alongside junior Easton Thomas. Ksawery Pociej and Youssef Dabbabi are the sophomores while head coach Jay Bruner welcomes six newcomers including three-star recruit Robby Krick (Ashland, Ky.). The freshman class also includes Johnny Wang (Chinese Taipei), Andre Limon (Mexico City, Mexico), Ben Husum (Aarhus, Denmark), Augusto Gonzalez Bonorino (Tucuman, Argentina) and January signee Benjamin Cawston (Tasmania, Australia).
Senior Leader
Charleston will look to the leadership of senior Benedikt Henning, a three-time All-CAA selection, at the top of the lineup with an 11-5 singles record and 12-3 doubles record last year. The German garned First Team All-CAA Singles honors in both 2017 and 2018, earning All-CAA Second Team Doubles honors last year. Easton Thomas, 7-11 singles and 7-6 doubles in 2018, is the lone junior in a young Cougars roster.
