MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball team cruised to a pair of 5-0 sweeps of Florida Southern to open the CofC Beach Bash on Friday afternoon at the Creekside Tennis and Swim Club, dropping only one set to push its season-opening win streak to five matches.
College of Charleston 5, Florida Southern 0 (Match One)
The Cougars dropped only one set at three's in a 5-0 sweep of Florida Southern to start the day.
Kennedy Madison (Evansville, Ind.) and
Lauren Freed (Troy, Ohio) continued their perfect start to the season with a 21-6, 21-4 victory at one's, while
Devon Rachel (Louisville, Ky.) and
McKala Rhodes (Charleston, S.C.) won 21-13, 21-17 at two's.
Amani Dunston (Agoura, Calif.) and
Mandy Napierala (Rochester, N.Y.) fought their way to a 21-17, 20-22, 15-9 win at three's, as
Logan Manusky (San Diego, Calif.) and
Allison Beckman (Apex, N.C.) delivered a 21-5, 21-10 victory at four's.
Taylor Foley (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and
Katja Ehlers (Raleigh, N.C.) won at five's by set scores of 21-17 and 21-7;
Sky Benjamin (Easley, S.C.) and
Megan Morris (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) posted a 21-11, 21-7 win at six's.

Charleston picked up its second sweep of the Mocs shortly thereafter with five straight-set victories. Madison and Freed won 21-9, 21-9 at one's and the duo of Rachel and Rhodes posted a 21-11, 21-8 decision at two's. Beckman and Manusky defeated Florida Southern's No. 3 pairing 21-11, 21-19, as Foley and Benjamin partnered for a 21-14, 21-9 victory at four's. Morris and
Ella Ridinger (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) cruised to a 21-8, 21-14 win at five's, while
Meghan Murphy (Orange, Calif.) and
Lauren Percy (Charleston, S.C.) posted an 18-21, 21-13, 15-6 victory at six's.
The Cougars continue their weekend slate at the CofC Beach Bash tomorrow with a 10:00 am matchup against Texas A&M Kingsville, and a 4:00 p.m. match against Huntingdon.
