Woodson And Palaska Sweep CAA Weekly Awards

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Senior Christi Woodson has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Singles Co-Player of the Week, joining junior Anastasia Palaska to also be named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week, it was announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Woodson earned her second CAA weekly singles award of the year after a 3-0 weekend in the number one spot. The senior from Melbourne, Fla., defeated James Madison's Daria Afanasyeva, 6-2, 6-2, on Saturday before making it two straight over CAA opponents with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, win over Elon's Suzanne Zenoni on Sunday. The senior made it three wins in three days with a 6-2, 6-2, victory against Elena Muller of Tulane on Monday to win her seventh straight flight one match and improve to 15-6 on the year, 8-1 through the Cougars last 10 matches.
In flight one doubles, Palaska and Woodson went 3-0 through Charleston's weekend matches, also picking up a first win over a top-50 ITA/Oracle ranked duo this season. The duo combined against at James Madison on Saturday in a 6-0 rout of Abby Amos and Daniela Voloh, also defeating Elon's No. 1 pair of Alex Koniaev and Maria Paraja 7-6 (9-7) on Sunday. The duo made it a sweep on Monday against Tulane with a first victory over a top-50 opponent by knocking off Tulane's #41 ranked pair of Ivone Alvaro and Elena Muller to improve to 13-6 on the season in flight one action.
This is the fourth and fifth CAA weekly awards for the College of Charleston this season, the third and fourth for Woodson and the second for Palaska, with both back in action on Saturday when the Cougars host Charlotte at Patriots Point on Senior Day for a 10 a.m. first serve.
