MORGANTOWN, W.Va. --- College of Charleston junior right-hander
Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.) added yet another honor to his already packed mantle on Wednesday afternoon with a nod to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-America Third Team as announced by NCBWA officials.
This marks McLarty's second postseason award of the day after he was also named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region First Team earlier this afternoon. McLarty is the Cougars' first NCBWA All-American since current Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Taylor Clarke was recognized on the NCBWA All-America First Team in 2015. He was joined on the NCBWA All-America Third Team by Elon right-hander George Kirby.
The All-CAA First Team selection compiled an 8-4 record with a 1.87 ERA in a superb junior season as the Cougars' Friday night starter this spring. He finished the campaign with 116 strikeouts in 101 innings pitched to lead the CAA and rank among the top 20 in the nation. McLarty ranked fourth in NCAA Division I this season in WHIP (0.84), 12
th in ERA (1.87), 16
th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.80), 18
th in hits allowed per nine innings (5.79) and 22
nd in strikeouts (116).
A three-time CAA Pitcher of the Week, McLarty owns a lifetime record of 15-9 with a career ERA of 3.03 in 207.2 innings over 48 appearances. He is fourth all-time in strikeouts per nine innings (10.14), fifth in strikeouts (234), eighth in WHIP (1.13) and ninth in ERA (3.03). In his final appearance for The College, McLarty scattered five hits and struck out eight in eight and one-third shutout innings against William & Mary in the CAA Championship. He was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the eighth round of the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft last week.
