Both Charleston Teams Place High at Queen City Invite

Charlotte, N.C. – The College of Charleston women's cross country team took third of 39 teams while the men finished sixth of 42 squads at the Queen City Invite in Charlotte on Friday.
For the second time in as many meets, the Cougar women were led by freshman Rhian Purves, who was 12th in the 5K race with a time of 18:31 on the McAlpine Creek Park course. Four other runners placed in the top 20 percent in a field of 316, a quartet led by Cate Ambrose who was 30th in 18:52.
Amber Scott (39th, 19:10), Kristen Cherry (42nd, 19:17) and Emily Dorony (52nd, 19:25) rounded out the Charleston scorers. Also completing the race were Grace McGrew (20:46), Isabel Muehleman (21:10) and Laurie Fogleman (22:56).
Hayden DiBona once again paced the Cougar men with a 20th-place finish in a field of 320 runners, covering the 8K course in a time of 26:07. Sam Beattie took 33rd in 26:25, Ryan Moosbrugger finished 37th in 26:29 and Evan Peirce crossed in 27:04 for 63rd place.
Jack Wedge was the fifth scorer for the men, taking 63rd in 27:12, and Tyler Fish posted a time of 27:32.
The Cougars are back in action next Saturday when they co-host the Charleston Classic along with The Citadel and the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission at Johns Island County Park.
