HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball team fell to No. 3 Florida State and No. 17 South Carolina by identical scores of 5-0 on Sunday at the Hilton Head Island Invitational despite stellar efforts by several Cougars.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Charleston fought for every ball and pushed the third-ranked Seminoles to the limit in several flights as Florida State came away with a 5-0 victory over the Cougars in the morning session. Sky Benjamin and Ella Ridinger battled their way to a 15-21, 23-25 decision at four's. The Cougars tested No. 17 South Carolina early and often in the afternoon session, including a three-set nail biting performance by Lauren Freed and Mandy Napierala at one's. Benjamin and Meghan Murphy also put in a tremendous effort in a 19-21, 20-22 setback at four's.
 
PAIRS OF THE DAY
Benjamin and Murphy stretched South Carolina's No. 4 pairing to their limits in the afternoon session, falling by two points in both sets. Freed and Napierala pushed the Gamecock's top duo to a decisive third set with a 21-17 victory in the middle stanza.
