CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston Women's Golf team captured its first tournament title of the 2021-22 campaign, winning the Edisto Island Invitational by 11 strokes on Tuesday. CofC hosted the 11-team tournament at the Par-71 Plantation Course and earned the tournament title with a 9-under 843, which marked the second-best 54-hole score in program history.
Freshman Emma Schimpf and sophomore Viktoria Hund nabbed co-medalist honors, winning the tournament with identical 5-under par 208s for the week. Hund and Schimpf's scores of 208 tied the third-lowest individual 54-hole score in program history.
Head coach Jamie Futrell earned his 32nd career tournament title with the win at Edisto. He ranks 11th among all active NCAA coaches with his 32 victories.
"We didn't play our best on Tuesday, but we held it together until we got going a little bit," Futrell said. "We finished our round strong again. I'm proud of the tournament win, anytime you beat the field by 11 is a great accomplishment. This gives us good momentum to finish the fall off with another big-time performance. Congratulations to Emma and Viktoria, who punctuated a great team effort this week."
A day after breaking the CofC's single-round individual record with a 7-under 64, Schimpf claimed her first career tournament title with a 3-over 75 on Tuesday. Hund secured her second tournament win after her victory at the Briar's Creek Invite last year. She collected five birdies en route to a 2-under 69 on Tuesday.
Sophomore Emily Dunlap wrapped up her best tournament of the season with a 1-over 73. Her second-round 69 lifted her to a T-8 finish, her first Top 10 performance of the campaign. Freshman Mary Kathryn Talledo finished 11th for the second straight week, finishing with another impressive 216. Rounding out the lineup, senior Jodee Tindal placed T-17 after a 77 on Tuesday, cementing all five Cougars in the lineup winding up in the Top 20 overall.
Sophomore Othilie Lied posted her best tournament of the season, moving up eight spots on Tuesday to finish T-11. Lied carded a season-best 1-under 70 on Tuesday to finish the week strong.
