Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Charleston and Towson Play to 2-2 Tie

Box ScoreĀ
CHARLESTON, S.C. ---
The College of Charleston women's soccer team (2-9-3, 1-3-1) played to a draw with Towson (7-5-3, 2-3-1) on Sunday afternoon. It was the first draw of the CAA slate for both teams.

The Cougars did not take long to get on the board. In the 14th minute, freshman Faith Slimmer scored her first goal of her season and career. Slimmer delivered the strike after junior Olivia Freitas set her up perfectly. The goal gave CofC an early 1-0 advantage.Ā

Less than ten minutes later, Towson evened up the score at 1-1. It was the first goal the Cougars had given up since the Elon game.

Charleston would respond, however. In the 32nd minute, Mary Alexander and Delaney Dawes exhibitedĀ a beautiful display of skill. Alexander fed a perfect cross to Dawes, who finished it off and found the back of the net. The goal by the freshman put the Cougars back on top, 2-1. That score would hold until the intermission, with CofC holding the advantage on the scoreboard after a half of play.Ā

The majority of the second half was controlled by the Cougars. CofCĀ made a switch at the half, putting Savannah Barron in the net. She made the most of the opportunity, recording nine saves in the second half. The Cougars had five shots attempted in the second period, but all were blocked.Ā

In the final minute of regulation, the Tigers finally broke through. Nia Christopher scored with just over 30 seconds remaining. It was Christopher's 12th goal of the season, which ranks inside the top five in the country. The goal sent the match to extra time tied at 2-2.Ā

Towson attempted four shots in the first extra period, but neither team was able to find the net. In the second extra period, the Cougars' scoring opportunity came in the 114th minute, but Natalie Sgro's shot attempt was off target. In the final seconds, Towson fired a shot at the net but Barron was there to elevate and get a hand on it. The save preserved a 2-2 draw as the match went final.
