
Charleston Faces #23 Hofstra in CAA Test

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The College of Charleston men's soccer team (3-5-2, 0-4) faces arguably its biggest test of the season, as the Cougars host #23 Hofstra (10-1, 3-1) in a CAA clash on Saturday at Patriots Point.
The Cougars are looking to bounce back from a tough 1-0 loss at William & Mary, while Hofstra has won seven consecutive matches entering Saturday's contest. The Pride last lost to Northeastern in early September.

• Charleston is looking to avoid another close CAA loss, as the Cougars have lost each of its CAA matches by one goal
• Kane Ritchie had one of the best weeks of any player in the CAA last week. The sophomore from Philadelphia scored two goals against Furman, including the game-winner in extra time. Ritchie also scored a game-winner at South Carolina and has four goals scored on the season
• The Charleston defense is loaded with talented freshmen, but seniors Nick Burnz and Steven Cahill have been anchors. Burnz leads all outfield players in minutes logged, while Cahill ranks fourth on the team
Sharing the Ball
• Jake Nicholson and Rio Murray assisted on Ritchie's goals against the Paladins to give them four assists each, which leads the club
• All but two of CofC's goals this season have come off assists
About the Pride
• Hofstra is the second ranked opponent the Cougars have faced this season
• While the Pride are only receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll, Top Drawer Soccer ranks Hofstra 23rd in the nation
• Sophomore Ryan Carmichael has been a star, scoring nine goals in 2021, good for third-best in the nation
