KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – For the second-consecutive tournament, senior Jodee Tindal (Rock Hill, S.C.) was the College of Charleston women's golf team's top finisher firing a final-round, 2-under par 70 at the Palmetto Intercollegiate held on Monday at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Turtle Point course.
Tindal made four birdies during the final round to tie for 20th in the 62-player field comprised of 12 Top 100-ranked college golfers. It was the lowest single round by any Cougar over the course of the 54-hole tournament.
No. 7-ranked Wake Forest won the team title (+10) with a 28-stroke victory over runner-up and No. 4 Virginia (+38). The Demon Deacons also finished 1-2 individually with No. 11-ranked Rachel Kuehn earning individual medalist honors finishing at even par for the tournament with rounds of 73, 74 and 69 followed by teammate and No. 47-ranked Lauren Walsh (+1) as runner-up.
On the final team leaderboard, Duke placed third overall (+39), Clemson fourth (+40), Furman fifth (+45), No. 22 Virginia Tech sixth (+46), East Carolina seventh (+54), host CofC eighth (+60), North Carolina ninth (+75), NC State 10th (+78) and Indiana 11th (+103).
"I thought we hung in there well today," CofC Head Coach Jamie Futrell said. "We definitely haven't hit our stride as a team yet. But, I thought we were competitive in a loaded tournament. The top three teams in this field will contend for a national championship including Wake Forest, who finished No. 1 last season. We beat North Carolina, NC State and Indiana, so every win was a good win for us in this tournament."
The Cougars will host the largest collegiate golf tournament in the country with the 42-team Kiawah Classic up next on Feb. 28 through March 2 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort's Cougar Point and Oak Point courses on Kiawah Island, S.C.
