WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In a physical battle, William & Mary claimed a 2-0 shutout in its Colonial Athletic Association opener versus College of Charleston on Sunday at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.
The Tribe (2-1-0, 1-0-0 CAA) held the advantage in scoring opportunities, 15-2, including six on target. Alexander Levengood scored both of W&M's goals – one in the 38th minute assisted by teammate Nathan Messer and the second unassisted in the 52nd minute.
Cameron Smith made his first start of the season for the Cougars (0-2-2, 0-1-0 CAA) and tallied three saves playing all 90 minutes in goal. The junior made his first save after diving to the left corner to deny the hot-foot of Levengood in the 9th minute.
Junior defender Chatham Headrick and freshman forward Jakob Kristensen had each of Charleston's shot attempts in the first half of play.
CofC will play its next two CAA games at home at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., including a Saturday, March 20 meeting with archrival UNCW at 6 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast on FloSports.
