MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Behind a solid 110-minute defensive effort, the College of Charleston men's soccer team battled No. 12-ranked UNCW to a double-overtime 0-0 draw on Saturday night at Ralph Lundy Field at Patriots Point.
Redshirt junior goalkeeper Cameron Smith made four saves to earn his first shutout of the season for the Cougars (0-2-3, 0-1-1 CAA), as they earned a point in Colonial Athletic Association play.
The Seahawks (4-0-2, 1-0-1 CAA) came into the contest rated No. 64 in the NCAA RPI. They had 14 shot attempts and 20 corner kicks in the game, but could not find the back of the net against CofC's back line. It was the third tie between the two schools in the all-time series.
"I'm very proud of our guys' resilience tonight," CofC Head Coach Keith Wiggans said. "UNCW is a talented team and we did a good job of limiting their chances. We need to create more chances on the attacking side of the game, but defensively, I was proud of our shape and our desire not to concede. This team's togetherness will help us continue to improve our game."
CofC will continue its conference homestand at Ralph Lundy Field by playing host to James Madison on Saturday, March 27 at noon (ET).
