CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The College of Charleston beach volleyball team will travel to Conway, S.C. this weekend looking to improve on its 3-1 start to the season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational. Charleston is scheduled to face Stetson and UNCW on Friday followed by matchups against Coastal Carolina and South Carolina on Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars registered 4-1 victories against Erskine and UNCW to go along with a sweep of Mercer on opening weekend at the UNF Beach Invitational. The duo of
Ella Reames and
Maria Zweig led the way for the Cougars with a perfect 4-0 mark on the weekend with three wins at five's and one at four's.
THE OPPONENTS
No. 16 Stetson comes into the weekend with a 1-3 record after falling to Florida Atlantic, FIU and South Carolina at the Stetson Spring Fling last weekend. The Hatters opened the weekend with a 3-2 win over No. 15 TCU.
UNCW is 1-3 on the season with a 4-1 victory against Erskine at the UNF Beach Invitational last Saturday.
Coastal Carolina has yet to play a match this spring following the postponement of two matches at Jacksonville last weekend.
No. 13 South Carolina went 2-2 on the season's first weekend with victories against No. 13 Florida International and No. 11 Stetson.
NOTABLES
- Six Cougars made their collegiate beach volleyball debuts last Friday including four freshmen. The debutantes delivered a combined 11-4 record over the course of the weekend.
- Sky Benjamin and Rebeca Olariu put together a superb opening weekend in the top flight with wins against Erskine, UNCW and Mercer.
- Logan Manusky posted a combined 3-1 mark alongside partners Hazel Brown (2-1) and Marie Martinsen (1-0).
