CONWAY, S.C. – After a 90-minute battle between both sides, No. 23-ranked Coastal Carolina held off a late attack by the College of Charleston men's soccer team for a 2-1 victory on Sunday at CCU Soccer Stadium.

A plethora of young players for the Cougars (0-1-2) shined against the Top 25 opposition. Freshman forward Jakob Kristensen scored his first collegiate goal off a pass from freshman forward Kane Ritchie in the 77th minute.

Both teams were equal in shot opportunities, 5-5, while Ritchie and senior midfielder Jake Nicholson had chances on goal late in regulation – saved by Coastal Carolina goalkeeper Pete Arnold in the 74th and 88th minutes respectively.

In the first half of play, sophomore midfielder Zinho Ballish had the Cougars' lone shot on goal versus the Chanticleers (7-2-1), who took a 1-0 lead into halftime behind an early goal by Claudio Repetto assisted by Kasper Skraep in the 9th minute.

Charleston readies itself for Colonial Athletic Association play traveling to William & Mary for its conference opener on Saturday, March 13 at 1 p.m. (ET) in Williamsburg, Va.
