MT. PLEASANT, S.C. --- The College of Charleston sailing team finished first in both A- and B-Divisions to record a 10-point win at the SAISA Coed Championship and placed second at the SAISA Team Race Championship this past weekend to punch its ticket to both the ICSA Team Race and Coed National Championships to held in early June in Annapolis, Md.
The Cougars finished second to Jacksonville via a sail-off at the SAISA Team Race on Saturday to open the weekend while still qualifying for the ICSA Team Race National Championship in June. Seniors
Jack Brown,
Hunter Skinner and
Paris Henken skippered the Cougars to a 6-1 record including a perfect 3-0 mark in round two. Sophomores
Noelle Owen and
Roxanne Snyder, along with freshman
Lucy Klempen, crewed for the College.
Charleston won both divisions at the SAISA Coed Championship on Saturday and Sunday to book its ticket to the ICSA Coed National Championship with a 10-point victory over Jacksonville. Henken and Skinner skippered the Cougars to a 10-point win in B-Division alongside crews Klempen and Snyder with five wins and seven top-two finishes in the 10-race regatta. Brown and Owen won A-Division via tiebreaker with 28 points and six race victories.
The Cougars will next compete for the ICSA Men's and Women's Singlehanded National Championships on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2 in Newport, R.I.
