Cougars and Jacksonville Play to 1-1 Draw

CHARLESTON, S.C. ---
The College of Charleston women's soccer team (1-6-2) welcomed the Jacksonville Dolphins (5-2-2) to Patriots Point for a Sunday afternoon nonconference match. The two teams played to full time with the contest ending in a 1-1 draw. 

The Cougars got the scoring started early, as junior Natalie Sgro found the back of the net to give Charleston an early 1-0 advantage. CofC held onto that lead for 80 minutes before Jacksonville scored the equalizer in the 86th minute. 

The match would go into full time with no more goals scored and result in a 1-1 draw.

  • Natalie Sgro notched her second goal of the season and her career. Sgro also scored against Georgia Southern
  • CofC goalkeeper, senior Meredith Holton, recorded two saves and moved into fifth place on the College's all-time career saves list with 143
  • Junior Lauren Sandidge played the entire 110 minutes of the match

  • Sunday's match was the second to go full time for the Cougars. CofC also played Goergia Southern to a 1-1 tie in the season opener
  • Freshmen Delaney Dawes and Mary Alexander led the Cougars with six and five shots, respectively
  • Charleston took 20 shots to Jacksonville's nine
  • The Cougars also held the edge in shots on goal, 7-3

  • Charleston will return to action on Sunday, September 26 as the Cougars open CAA play with a home match against William & Mary. The match is slated to start at noon.
