EDISTO ISLAND, S.C. - Emma Schimpf earned second consecutive medalist honor after finishing T-1 at the Edisto Island Invitational.
Schimpf, a sophomore from Daniel Island, S.C., played a 1-over final round to finish the tournament at 3-under. She sank two birdies on Tuesday with 13 holes at par.
The No. 25 Cougars finished second as a team after 17-over day to finish three strokes out of the win on a windy day in Edisto. Charleston Southern won the tournament at 20-over after an impressive 2-over round.
"We did not handle the conditions well today. I was disappointed that we weren't mentally together," said head coach Jamie Futrell. "CSU was good today and we did not match their intensity. Congrats to them on the victory as well as Emma on another great tournament."
Junior Othilie Lied finished T-7 at 3-over following a 2-over final round. Lied posted three birdies with ten holes at par.
"I was proud of Othilie this week. She has played some great golf over the past couple of tournaments."
Lied held the lead after the opening round and earned her best finish of the season.
Smith Knaffle finished T-18 at 7-over after recording an eagle on hole ten. Emily Dunlap also recorded an eagle on five to go 2-over in the final round and 11-over on the tournament for T-27, jumping seven positions from the second round. Viktoria Hund had an 11-over day for T-27 with Dunlap followed by Adrian Anderson at 8-over and T-30. Isabella Britt finished at 60th with a 8-over final round, and Mary Kathryn Talledo was 14-over for 72nd.
The Cougars return to action when they travel to Hawaii for the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, their final fall tournament, on October 24.
