Charleston, S.C. --- The College of Charleston women's tennis coach Angelo Anastopoulo announced the program's 2023 spring schedule on Tuesday.
"This year's schedule is highlighted by the 40th Anniversary of the 1983 Women's NAIA National Tennis Champions, 20th Anniversary of the 2003 Southern Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Champions and the 10th Anniversary of the 2013 Southern Conference Women's Tennis Champions. We will honor these teams during CofC Tennis Alumni activities on January 21," said Anastopoulo.
The team begins with a trip to in-state competitor Clemson on Jan. 14 followed by the alumni match. Charleston will then have a six-game home stand throughout the month of February featuring matchups with opponents such as Coastal Carolina (Feb. 8), Georgia Southern (Feb. 19), Newberry (Feb. 19) and Duquesne (Feb. 28).
"The 2022 team had a great year earning the #1 Seed for the CAA Championships. However, our bid for the tournament title came up short. This year's team is incredible motivated as a result. The CAA is very talented and has much depth with so many teams having a chance to win the title. It will be challenging spring for sure."
The Cougars will make a quick trip down to Florida to face Stetson (Mar. 3) and Oakland (Mar. 5) before hosting nine more non-conference opponents in Charleston.
Charleston will open CAA competition on the road against Elon on March 25. Other home highlights include an April 5 bout with crosstown rival Charleston Southern and Senior Day on April 7 vs. South Carolina State.
The CAA Championships will be held in Williamsburg, Va. from April 20-23.
All Charleston tennis home matches will take place at the College of Charleston Tennis Center at Patriots Point. Admission to matches is free.
