MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. -- The College of Charleston men's tennis team (9-8, 1-2) won its regular season finale over crosstown rival The Citadel on Wednesday, sweeping the Bulldogs on Senior Day. The Cougars clinched a winning record in the regular season with the victory.
Charleston finished the regular season campaign strongly, winning seven of its last nine matches.
The Cougars got off to a hot start in doubles, winning the point behind a 6-3 win from
Zac Larke and
Robby Krick and a 6-1 victory by
Johnny Wang and
Ben Husum. Krick and Larke evened up their doubles record at 8-8, while Wang and Husum moved to 2-0 as a pair.
Charleston grabbed its first singles win of the day when
Andre Limon improved to 12-5 witg a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 position.
Matias Gaedechens clinched his match shortly after, winning 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 spot.
Noah Borges won the clinching fourth point with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph in the No. 4 position.
Robby Krick kept it moving with a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court two.
Johnny Wang then clinched a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court five for his 12th singles win of the year.
With just one match needed to claim a sweep,
Zac Larke delivered. After losing the first set, Larke rallied to win the second set 7-6 (7-5) and then won the tiebreak 10-3 to give Charleston the clean sweep.Â
