The Cougars won their second tournament as a team this season
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The College of Charleston women's team captured its second tournament victory of the season as a team on Tuesday, winning the ECU Ironwood Invitational. CofC fired a 2-under 862 to win the tournament by seven strokes, besting a field of 13 teams, including No. 39 Campbell, No. 50 North Florida and Ohio State, among others.
Head coach Jamie Futrell now has 33 career tournament wins to add to what's been a decorated tenure at The College and beyond. Futrell's team has six Top-4 finishes during the 2021-22 campaign entering the postseason.
Freshman Mary Kathryn Talledo led the way for CofC, claiming co-medalist honors to win her first career individual collegiate tournament. Talledo joins teammates Viktoria Hund and Emma Schimpf to give CofC three medalist winners this season. Talledo shot a 2-under 214, carding par or better in all three rounds at the Ironwood Invitational.
"The team showed their champions hearts today," Futrell said. "It was a tough start, but we finished strong. Congratulations to MK on her first collegiate victory. Congrats to Jodee as well! This was a total team effort."
Senior Jodee Tindal put together the best tournament of her final campaign as a Cougar. Tindal placed T-3, just one stroke back of medalist honors with a 1-under 215. The veteran was fantastic on Tuesday with three birdies and 14 pars to post a 2-under 70 in the final round, playing a crucial role in CofC's team tournament victory.
Sophomore Viktoria Hund added a fourth Top-10 finish to her ledger this season, placing T-8 individually at even-par. She shot a season-best 67 in Round 2 and showed gritty resolve in Tuesday's final round, posting an emphatic 33 on the back nine after a 43 on the front.
Freshman Emma Schimpf finished 2-over par and T-13 overall, giving her six Top-20 performances in 10 career tournaments. The rookie carded a tournament-best 1-under 71 on Tuesday to move up the leaderboard. Smith Knaffle placed T-48 to round out the lineup, anchored by a 1-over 73 in the opening round.
Competing as individuals, CofC's Othilie Lied and Emily Dunlap placed T-56 and T-65 overall, respectively. Lied's week was highlighted by an even-par 72 in the opening round.
With the regular season complete, CofC now turns to the CAA Championship, which takes place in Southport, N.C., from April 15-17.
