RICHMOND, VA. – Redshirt freshman midfielder Leonardo D'Ambrosio became the second College of Charleston men's soccer player to earn conference accolades this season when he was selected the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
D'Ambrosio joins goalkeeper Olly Marshall, who was the league's co-defensive player of the week after a shutout over Delaware two weeks ago.
D'Ambrosio was a part of each Cougar goal in a 3-1 win over Monmouth on Sunday. He assisted on a pair of first half tallies to stake Charleston to a 2-0 lead at intermission. He drew a foul in the box just 50 seconds into the second half and converted the PK to give the Cougars an important insurance goal.
The Turin, Italy, native took over the team lead and ranks third in the CAA with three assists. Including his two goals, D'Ambrosio's average of 1.40 points per game places him in a tie for second in the league with teammate Chris Elliott.
The win over Monmouth kept the Cougars undefeated (2-0-1) in CAA play for the first time through three games since joining the conference in 2013. Charleston is tied for first with UNCW with seven points.
The Cougars return to action at USC Upstate tomorrow at 7 p.m. The next CAA match is at Drexel on Saturday at 1 p.m.
