9/27/2022 3:46:00 PM

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The College of Charleston men's golf team opened the season at the Old Town Collegiate Invitational hosted by Wake Forest.

The Cougars finished in 11th place and were led by Max Dupree who finished T-4. Dupree finished his first CofC tournament 5-under par 70, jumping 11 positions from his day one finish. Dupree shot a 67 on both his second and third rounds, highlighted by five birdies during the final round.

"It was a great start to Max Dupree's CofC career with a top four finish. Closing his final round with three birdies on a tough stretch was extremely impressive," said head coach Mitch Krywulycz.

Kieron van Wyk finished T-12  at 2-under, rising eight spots on the final day. The current CAA individual champion secured an eagle on hole four.

Tim Bertenbreiter finished T-50 followed by Kyle Bachkosky at 62 and Sebastian Nielsen at 63.

"While this week was tough to take as a team, the experience will no doubt help our program come May."

The Cougars return to action on October 9 at the Bank of Tennessee in Johnson City, Tennessee.
