CHARLESTON, S.C. – College of Charleston opens a three-game homestand and seeks its third straight win when the Cougars host USC Upstate on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Ralph Lundy Field.
The Cougars are after their longest winning streak since ripping off five in a row in 2017. Charleston has scored eight goals in back-to-back victories over Georgia Southern and William & Mary, including three by Peter Thomas that earned him CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Monday.
The home stretch also includes Saturday's Senior Day match against Elon and a final non-conference contest against Winthrop next Tuesday.
Thomas' goal scoring surge moved him into a tie for seventh in the CAA with six, and he is also tied for sixth in points (15) while ranking fourth in shots (35) and fifth in shots on goal (16). Leonardo D'Ambrosio is tied for fourth in the conference with six assists.
The Spartans snapped a three-game losing skid with a 2-0 win over Longwood on Saturday. Cooper Jennings made nine saves in the victory and was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week.
The teams first met in 2021 and played to a scoreless draw at Ralph Lundy Field. Upstate won, 2-1, last year in Spartanburg with D'Ambrosio scoring the Charleston goal.
